Canelo Signs Ridiculous $365M Deal With DAZN

Streaming service DAZN just signed the biggest name in boxing, Canelo Alvarez, to an eye-popping five-year deal worth $365 million.

The future of boxing was in question a few weeks ago when cable powerhouse HBO announced they would no longer be broadcasting fights. But now, thanks to up and coming streaming service DAZN, it looks like their future might be as bright as ever.

Canelo Alvarez, the middleweight world champion and possibly the biggest star in the boxing world just signed a 5-year, 11-fight deal worth a ridiculous $365 million. It is the richest deal in the history of sports, with Giancarlo Stanton’s 13-year, $325 million deal with the New York Yankees coming in second. And when you remember that DAZN has only been around since September, it’s especially mind-boggling.

Alvarez’ first fight under the groundbreaking deal will come on December 15 in his first fight in the super middleweight division when he faces Rocky Fielding at Madison Square Garden. Oscar De La Hoya, who’s company Golden Boy Promotions represents Alvarez, said that “Canelo is the highest-paid athlete in the world. He’s extremely happy.” I should hope so!

“This is only from my hard work,” Alvarez said in a quick interview with ESPN after the deal was announced. “The most important thing to me was being able to give the fans the opportunity to see me fight without having to pay the $70 or $80 for my fights on pay-per-view. That was the most important thing, more important than what I am making.

“It’s very important for me to give the fans the biggest fights and the most important fights, and I promise you I will always do that. The December fight with Fielding is a dangerous fight. I am moving up in weight, and I don’t know how my body will feel. But I always want to take on challenges, and I am very happy my fans will be able to see me fight for a small cost.”

And the deal is more clever than you may think as far as DAZN is concerned. It also gives them the rights to over 7,000 hours of Golden Boy fights. Which includes every single fight of De La Hoya’s career. And playing some classic boxing matches can surely help them build an audience and gain viewers. Golden Boy will also help DAZN by producing other segments to air along with live events. A mutually beneficial partnership for sure.

From Gymnastics to Parkour: Silke Sollfrank Gained her Freedom From Competitive Sport

Published

on

Silke Sollfrank has grown up as a competitive professional gymnast. Consequently, she was not very happy and got tired of the pressure of competition and the rules of the sport.

This all changed when she was introduced to the freestyle world of parkour. She noted that she has more freedom of movement than worrying about her toes, pointing all the time.

Parkour is a training discipline that entails jumping, running, and climbing around urban landscapes. In a public statement, Sollfrank said that she needs to set her limits and focus on her movement rather than comparing herself to other people.

She also added that she was constantly comparing herself to other women when she was doing gymnastics and trying to become better and exceed their talent and skills.

“Parkour kind of slapped me in the face and showed me: ‘This is not this is not what you want.'”

When she immersed herself in parkour in the year 2015, she had never looked back. Today, the 23-year-old has competed in the world’s biggest parkour competitions. She made her debut at the Aurora Games in New York and made the podium in the Red Bull Art of Motion in 2019.

Besides collaborating in the Netflix show coined “Ultimate Beastmaster,” she was also the last woman standing in her Ninja Warrior Germany journey. Also, she was the only woman in the 15-member parkour group of Ashigaru. Today, she wants to invite and encourage more individuals to follow in her footsteps and take up parkour’s freestyle movement.

“Doesn’t matter how old you are, doesn’t matter what gender you are, as long as you can see that you enjoy movement, that you enjoy challenging yourself.” She also admitted that she had struggled but fortunately overcame her fear of heights to compete further.

“There shouldn’t be any fears of starting because everyone starts at their own level. Some people might have a lot of body experience and start at a higher level. Some people don’t know about anything, would like to know how to do parkour and they start from zero. And that’s totally fine.”
